Getting Started

How do I get started with SplitMinder?

Download the app from the App Store or Google Play, create an account, and invite your co-parent. Once they accept, you can both start connecting your bank accounts and tracking expenses together.

Is SplitMinder free?

SplitMinder offers a free tier that includes basic expense tracking for up to 50 transactions per month. For unlimited tracking, bank integrations, and advanced reporting, we offer affordable premium plans.

What if my co-parent doesn't want to use the app?

SplitMinder works best when both parents participate, but you can still use it solo to track your own child-related expenses. You can always invite your co-parent later when they're ready.

Security & Privacy

Is my bank information safe?

Yes. We use Plaid for bank connections, the same technology used by Venmo, Robinhood, and major banks. We use bank-level 256-bit encryption, and we never store your login credentials. We only have read-only access — we can never move your money.

Can my co-parent see all my bank transactions?

No. You control which accounts and transactions are shared. SplitMinder only shows transactions that you've marked as child-related expenses. Your personal spending remains private.

Do you sell my data?

Never. Your financial data is never sold to third parties. We make money through premium subscriptions, not by selling your information.

Features & Functionality

How does automatic expense tracking work?

Once you connect your bank account, SplitMinder automatically imports transactions. Our smart categorization suggests which expenses are child-related based on merchant names and patterns. You can approve, edit, or dismiss suggestions.

Can I manually add expenses?

Yes. While automatic tracking saves time, you can always manually add expenses with photos of receipts. This is useful for cash purchases or transactions from accounts you haven't connected.

How do expense approvals work?

When an expense is added, both parents are notified. Either parent can approve the expense or flag it for discussion. For large purchases, you can set thresholds that require approval before the expense counts toward your shared totals.

Can I export my expense data?

Yes. You can export your expense history as a CSV or PDF at any time. This is useful for tax purposes, legal documentation, or just keeping your own records.

Payments & Settlement

Does SplitMinder handle actual payments?

SplitMinder focuses on tracking and transparency, not payments. At the end of each month (or period you set), the app calculates who owes whom and how much. You can then settle up using your preferred payment method — Venmo, Zelle, check, etc.

What split ratios are supported?

You can set any split ratio that works for your situation — 50/50, 60/40, or any custom percentage. You can also set different ratios for different expense categories.

How are disputed expenses handled?

If a parent disputes an expense, it's flagged for discussion. Disputed expenses don't count toward totals until resolved. The app keeps a record of the dispute and resolution for future reference.
